- 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 ½ cups warm water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add the yeast water to the flour and mix with a spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning it to coat. Cover and let it rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough, shape into a loaf.
- Bake on a baking sheet for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let it cool before slicing.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a teaspoon of Italian herbs to the dough.
- Brush the top with melted butter before baking for a golden crust.
- If dough is too sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time.
